No actual sailing experience but I have observed many types on water docks and talked to many owners. There is no one swedish boat type Swan makes high end racers and fast(racing-cruising ) boats - Halberg Rassy high quality some what tubby cruisers -X yachts makes fast high tech. cruise and race types more toward performance. Sweden 34s good R-C type and vindo lots of teak relatively modern.-Malo nice cruisers but very pricey there are others almost all good boats

sorry for calling swan swedish it's Finish I tend to clump scandinavian boats together-Its probably hard to go too wrong with a scandinavian boat they may not all be the best but on average seem to be good to very good.

Look at the arrangement. The higher end US boats are made for open oceans. Can't say that about the euro boats, IMO. I was looking at a HR 42' I think, and the galley was so small to be laghable. There are so many price points of course. And if money was no object I would go with a Aus boat built by Kelly Archer.... but a Shannon compared to a Hallberg-Rassy.... no comparison.

According to http://www.kellyarcher.co.nz/company.html, his boats are from New Zealand, not Australia (I'M Australian and was interested in where this great Australian builderwas located, alas, no luck)
