Ericson 27 - Explanation for Boat Pricing

Since I don't know what exactly I need and there are so many different boats out there I decided to just look at what is available and then research the ones that catch my eye. I saw this Ericson 27 1979 Ericson E 25 sailboat for sale in Rhode Island and was trying to figure out why the prices vary so much and why this one would
be so low. I had not anticipated any decent boats under 10 or 20 thousand and if I don't have to pick up a "hospice" boat that could move my timeline up considerably. So, what do folks think of these boats in general and this one in particular? And why the prce variation?

Re: Ericson 27 and why boats cost what they do

In short, Ericson build quality is wildly speculative. Some have had great luck, others - not so great.

In speaking with a local broker he commented on the fact that in this economy smaller boats are not selling as well as they used to. That might explain the low prices. Talk to a broker in your area and see if he has observed the same trend.

"hospice boat"? ROFL. Did you make this up yourself?

I bought one of those. Turned out to be a good buy but still needs some work. I can sail it while fixing it up.

Re: Ericson 27 - Explanation for Boat Pricing

We sail in an Ericson 28 out of Herrington Harbor North on the Chesapeake. Boat seems very stable and strong. The steerage is very responsive. The 28 has an inboard, same aft starboard birth, convertible couch double birth in main cabin and forward v-birth with one marine head. Galley layout looks almost identical, including cabinetry. We have had her out in heavy weather and she responded well, even in the chop that is famous on the Chesapeake.

Best,
