Endeavour 40

We are planning to become fulltime cruiser (about 6 months out of the year) when we retire in a couple of years. We currently have a Hunter 31 on an inland lake and sail almost every weekend. I have also bareboated in the BVI. Having looked at a number of boats, we are fairly sure we want a center cockpit and have focused on the Endeavour 40 or possibly the 42. We have heard the 40 has the bigger salon and smaller aft cabin. We also like the Hunter 42 CC (great layout), but there seems to be the opinion that Hunters are unsuited for anything except costal crusiing. We plan to island hop down the Caribbean, getting below the hurricane zone the first year and then see where we want to go after that. Any thoughts on the Endeavour 40 or the other boats mentioned?
