Endeavour 32 versus Irwin 34

Hi -

Does anyone have any knowledge on the design differences between the E32 (formerly Irwin 32 molds) and the Irwin 34 citation? They seem very similar above the waterline. I am looking at one of each.

I've also seen threads saying that Endeavour improved Irwin's build quality and the opposite - anyone know the real answer (right!)?

Thanks

Sandy

My previous boat was an Irwin 32 (not to be confused with the center cockpit Irwin 32.5 or the Citation 32). Whether Endeavour built their 32 better I can't say, but I find it implausible that the Irwin version would have been built better.

The Citation 34 doesn't resemble the old 32 much, other than they were both available with centerboards. The 34 is lighter for its size, and should sail to windward better. My 1971 32 hull was built heavy. In correspond locations on the hulls, the 32 had the same, or more, thickness than my current Citation 39.

Finally, Irwin Yachts has brochures for the Irwin models so you can compare in more detail.

Thanks Steve.

Did you like your Irwin 32, generally, and can you give me some specific feedback?

I am looking for comfortable, well-performing coastal cruisers that can be sailed anywhere in the gulf but also lend themselves to single/double handing on the lake here in New Orleans. I had looked at a citation 34 that is in good structural shape with a good engine but needs alot of interior work, and then an endeavour 32 that is ready to sail away with great systems including generator, ducted a/c, chartplotter etc..

I did like the 32. It had a tiller, and I could single hand since the traveler was aft of the tiller. We took the 32 up the coast in 2002, direct from Cape May to Block Island. We bought the bigger Irwin to have a real galley and a nav station.

Thanks. The Endeavour version has wheel steering (pedestal) and a traveler along the companionway entrance.
