Do you recognise this yacht.23ft WARATAH TWIN KEEL.Tasmania circa 1970's

http://youtu.be/TwsosCoumfU -This is a yacht my grandfather built between '72 & '74. WARATAH TWIN BILGE KEEL MASTHEAD SLOOP. Built in Thurlstane, Tasmania. Then called ORION 3. When my grandad sold it, it was sailed to King island, Bass strait in the late 70's. Just so you know, i'm registered on multiple forums to post the same question, I have contacted a tourist operator on King isl' and I've contacted MaST (boat registry). So far no luck but if you can help with my search then drop me a line please.

I have no knowledge of the boat, but will pass on the info to a South Australian timber boat craftsman I correspond with. Can't hurt.

The Wooden Boat Festival in Hobart may be one starting point for you. Did you attend that last month?

Enjoyed watching the clip. Good luck finding your Opa's boat and welcome to CF.

My dear you can tell as many people as you like. The more the better. If the yacht still exists then it's hopefuly just a matter of time before I find it. It would make an awesome youtube video, 35 odd years in the making. I didn't actually know the boat show was on. Alas my search continues anyhow.

Got a feeling my friend Laurie either owns this boat or one rather similar. They live on Bruny Is and keep the boat in kettering. I will have a closer look in the next couple of days when I am next in kettering.

Hi and thanks for your interest. I moved house recently and only got the net on today. So now i'm back I would love to follow up on your message as to your friends yacht. The original WARATAH design is 21 foot with a 2 tier cabin roof and there are a few of them still getting about. let me know when you chat with your friend.

This is the boat I was thinking of, finally rowed over and got some photo's. It looks like it has a different cabin, so probably isn't the one your father built unless it's been heavily modified and the mane changed over the years. But it is definitely a waratah. Maybe laurie might have some more info.

Cheers

Ben

Thats awesome, thanks buddy. I gotta say theres something about this yacht that that makes me not want to look away. Does curlew 2 have 1 or 2 keels? I know that another guy built a Waratah in the 70's in Wynyard but built it with 1 keel only. Don't know the name either. This definately is a Waratah , if it is the ex Orion 3 then it has been lengthened both in the hull and cabin. Even the colour scheme is a dead ringer! MORE INFO WANTED PLEASE

First you have to have an address for the image. I save them on my blog site and then they are stored someplace on piccasa. I copy the url (address at the top. The http:/... bit) then paste it in when it asks me to provide the url for the picture.

My guess is you can do the same with images stored on Crusers forum.

Hi dj
Use 'Post reply' (just under the last post) rather than 'Quick reply'
Scroll down and click on 'Manage attachments'
Click on 'Choose File' and select your image
Click on 'Upload' to the right of this
When it has uploaded, scroll down to the bottom and click on 'Close this window'
The image should now be attached at the bottom of your post (you can click on 'Preview Post' if you want to view it.

Pic here...I figured it out. woohoo! It's in my album along with others but if it's here people can draw a quick comparison between these 2 Waratahs.

I'd be interested in learning more about Curlew2. If your buds with the owner tell them to drop in for a chat here on cruisers
