DESPERATE

Hi guys
does any one in Australia, New Zealand, or any where else - know of an insurance company that will do 3rd party, or Holy of Holy's comprehensive insurance on a ferro boat? I'm getting knockbacks everywhere and am getting really desperate - How the hell do I get into a marina if I cant get insurance?

That is a great question

I've wondered the same. I was worried due to my boats 30 year age but got insurance via Sea Tow. Boat US is good and if West Marine is in Australia then hopefully they will have a similar arrangement.
I'd try one of the biggie boat insurers or try going via your homeowners.
I tried my homeowners first but it was prohibitive. Let us know what happens.

Have you tried:
1) Nautilus Marine?
http://www.nautilusinsurance.com.au/pages/contact

2) Club Marine?
http://www.clubmarine.com.au/

These are two insurers who specialise in marine insurance and are therefore a bit more familiar with the issues (perceived or otherwise) surrounding ferro boats.

Could try Competitive insurance for small boats and yacht to UK residents and businesses, England, UK

edit: That bit about UK residence and business was not obvious on the web page, only when I did the link. Nevertheless, might be worth a try.

AudreyK, where are you located? I know Boat U.S. won't cover a boat outside U.S. waters (I've tried 'em). I found decent coverage with Offshore Risk Management, offices in FL, USVI and BVI. offshorerisk.com.

Tried them both, they are not even interested in 3rd party. Ive tried brokers, and the Nrma - not over 10 meters, RACQ, no, Suncorp, Just stopped, and no 3rd party.
Ive emailed a NZ company, practically begging, if they say no, maybe they can put me onto some one else in NZ, It seems that off shore is my only hope.

I'll give the off shore risk one that harryrezz mentions a try, hell , the woorst thery can say is no.

Harry if you are ever in Australia, I owe you a
beer, Offshore came through for me, bloody expensive, but at least its insurance, and beggars can't be choosers.

thanks harry

ferros

I see plenty of ferros in marinas.there is on next to me. (Newport) Your problem appears to be one of 3rd party so could you not insure for a low hull value just to get the 3rd party in place?

If you want I could ask the guy where his is insured thru.

ferro insurance

Hi AudreyK, can you share more info on the insurance through Offshore risk? What type of ferro boat do you have? We have a samson c breeze and are located at rivergate marina in Brisbane. Have never been asked for insurance here, but were in NSW.

They took my money, paid in full, then sent me a letter 4 months later that my insurance was canceled and would not be reinstated unless I sent them another $400.00. We were off cruising so had no choice. They did not forward another cruisers payment to the underwriters so while they were cruising out of the US they had no insurance and did not know it until they returned. Be very, very careful.

I think your problem is not the ferro thing but the 3rd party 'only' thing, i also recently got insurance on my cat and no-one would give me 3rd party ONLY....i dont think there is enough 'in it' for them to do 3rd party only...you may have much better luck just to go for the cheapest comprehensive insurance which includes 3rd party...more expensive sure...but that's the nature of the beast. Otherwise a bit of photoshopping and forging may go a long way nudge nudge wink wink say no more
