Dependable Marine Yard Wanted
We are contemplating pulling our sailboat for about 6 weeks from November to January. Anyone know a reliable, reasonably priced marine yard on Georgia or Florida's east coast who can handle us? We are 58 feet long, 16 feet wide, draw 7 feet, and weigh 72,000 pounds.

What is your mast height? Some places you would have to fit under a 65' bridge.
Also, is this for DIY repairs or are you looking for work done by the yard?
If all DIY, Green Cove Springs is one of the best deals.

Re: Dependable Marine Yard Wanted
Just noticed your draft is 7'. I would check with GCS to make sure you could get into the haulout slip.

Good questions. We are 80 feet tall and do just about all the work on our boat.

80' will shoot down Green Cove Springs. I think the St Augustine inlet is a bit shallow for the draft. I know of one yard in Brunswick but not sure if they allow DIY and I haven't heard great things about them.
I see the St Johns Boat Company on the river before you get to downtown Jacksonville that looks like can accomadate your draft and height. Don't have any personal knowledge but the reviews looked reasonable. Might be worth giving them a call.

Tiger Point in Fernandina Beach can haul you. DIY allowed.

Website kind of said no DIY. Found this "Do It Yourself Days"
$25.00 per day plus storage - Maximum of 2 weeks!" on this page of their website. Our Services | Tiger Point Marina | Deep Water Wet Slips | Long Term Boat Storage | Fernandina Beach | Amelia Island, Florida. So, technically you can DIY a little but Tiger Point doesn't seem too friendly to the idea.
St John's Boat Company got good reviews on www.activecaptain.com one saying they support DIY. Again I know nothing about the company, just what I read online but might be worth a call.

I use Cracker Boy Boat Works at the Palm Beach Inlet in Rivera Beach. Used it two times with both being good experiences. They also have a yard at Ft Pierce which is also a good inlet. Your size is no issue.

I'm pretty sure Riverside in Ft. Pierce, Fl. can handle you. Give 'em a call

Florida is expensive. If you can deal with the location, which is a bit remote but lovely, it's hard to beat Bock Marine, on Core Creek (Intracoastal), Beaufort, NC. Very reasonable costs and a very knowledgeable owner (Kenny Bock). The only downside is that you may end up applying for citizenship of North Carolina and never leaving.

NC is a very good place for boat work but it is reaching the end of summer and could start getting cold up there.
FL, can be expensive but the rule of thumb, the farther north you go the cheaper it gets. South FL, Miami and Ft Lauderdale are definitely high dollar. Once you get north of Jupiter/Ft Pierce costs start dropping a lot.

I couple of places I have used are Sadler Point in Jacksonville and Crackerboy in fort pierce. Both were very accommodating and resourceful. Not to mention reasonable.

Sadler Point gets very good reviews and website confirms DIY is fine.
