Cruising from Ponce Inlet to Key West

I am planning a sailing trip from Ponce Inlet to Key West and will have to sail it off shore as my mast height won't fit under fixed bridges. I would like any advice from those who have sailed a similar course. What time of year is most favorable? I was thinking of early Spring. My boat has a 6 foot draft and I don't know if that will be a problem in the Keys. What ports along the way would be good for overnight stays?

I do this trip a lot.when do you want to go? just keep an eye on the weather and stay away from the thunderheads watch your radar have one other person if you can lots of ships in the straights.

I have overnited at Fort Pierce, Lake worth by peanut Island. a small wavebreak outside stiltsville, Rodriguez key, Boot Key All are easy day sails and fast in and out Boot key I stay out by marker 1 and dinghy in.
