Re: Cruising around Hawaii - How many feet of chain?!

Definitely Krakens on any east side of any Island.

Re: Cruising around Hawaii - How many feet of chain?!

Seas are rough and that's where the weather comes in. I've seen it as flat as glass out from our place we live near Ka'ehu Bay, but that's few and far between. You can't come into Ka'ehu it's all reef. The Kahului harbor is protected, but I've also surfed overhead sets in there and seen it break all the way across the anchorage. Best to just get over to the Kihei and Lahaina side quickly. Do your crossings at night. My father-in-law has logged more miles sailing inner island than any other person I know. He always left at 2 a.m. Kaunakakai on Molokai has a good anchorage. It does get windy through there.

Mexico is awesome. The people are amazing. Great anchorages. Anyone whose been there can attest to that. Pictures on my blog.
