Re: Corpus oxide
OK I bit , I googled corpus oxide . Nothing came up maybe you could provide a link . In general I would say that if it is a sliver bullet for paint then why is it not already in there ? Many beers ago a dock mate told me he put in habanero chili powder and tetracycline , he claimed it was the best thing ever . He was also known to imbibe in excess and sometimes his pants would fall down and he didn't realize it .

Re: Corpus oxide
Do some searching about adding ivermectin to your paint. Works a treat but people are worried about it leaching into the ocean like the cuprous oxide does.
Ivermectin is an over the counter antibiotic. http://forum.woodenboat.com/showthre...ke-it-yourself

Re: Corpus oxide
I believe you'll find that cuprous oxide (once a common additive) has been banned for use in anti-fouling paints by many countries and more are heading that way.

Re: Corpus oxide
I thought that cuprous oxide was still an ingredient in most anti-foul paints.

Still in many paints I think. It's a bit like banning asbestos; some countries don't get the message. I thought you would know all about oxides of copper after cleaning wiring for good connections!

I only knew about partial bans of cuprous oxide in a couple of European countries. I guess I missed something. What countries have banned cuprous oxide?

It seems to be an advocacy site, but this appears to give the answers:

Re: Corpus oxide
My old body feels pretty rusty in the morning some days... I guess that qualifies as corpus oxide, maybe??

Ann says that I have a foul mouth, but I've not determined if the fouling is due to barnies... must remember to check someday soon!

Anti fouling paints are a complex matrix of resins, binders, pigments and biocides with hundreds of millions of dollars and decades of R&D behind them. Simply adding random ingredients willy-nilly and expecting to improve a paint's efficacy is pretty silly. They don't work that way. If it did, don't you think we'd see expensive packages of "corpus oxide" or cayenne pepper or weed killer on the shelves of every West Marine store?

Not many. Copper is still far-and-away the most common biocide used in anti fouling paints worldwide. That is not likely to change any time soon.

Re: Corpus oxide
I wonder just how much that adding things may mess up the paint, anything from adhesion to reducing its effectiveness.
