Converting 4 cabin to 3 cabin

Hello,

I've been looking for a 3 cabin sloop with a centerline forward berth. Keep finding 4 cabin versions that if the wall between the forward berths were removed, it would make an amazing sized forward single cabin. Does anyone have experience (pictures included would be great) with converting 2 forward cabins into one large cabin? I'm curious to know what issues you may have run into, and if there's anyone you'd recommend for doing this kind of work.

Thanks so much!
-Andy

I've done this with both forward and aft double cabins. Photos show huge owners stateroom made by removing center bulkhead from between two small cabins on Beneteau First 435. This facilitated the installation of a rear engine room access door and drop-down desk.

That is very cool! Looks great too! Would love to see more like this, as it will give me some more ideas while I'm still shopping for my boat.

Thank you for sharing!

What exactly are you looking to convert, boatwise?

Mainly I've looked at Beneteau, Jenneau, and Dufour.

Re: Converting 4 cabin to 3 cabin

I have a (maybe had, depending upon Maria) a Jeanneau DS 54 with single bow master and double aft cabin. I took out the midline wall and closet from the aft cabin which gives me an enormous 15 foot wide space with a double bed in the center and two smaller berths on the side. Easy to do and easy to reverse in about two hours.

Wow... That is a very cool option that I hadn't thought about. Any pics to share? How difficult was the conversion, were there any issues with support, and how did it look?
