Re: Columbia 28 as opposed to 29'

Thanks.

Stability and safety for crisis conditions trumps all else IMO even if (hopefully) rarely needed.

If you are talking about coastal cruising, I believe either model will work well assuming everything is mechanically sound. Personally I like the C29 better, however I spent many years on the C28 and it never let me down.

No, as posted in the OP, I'm looking for at least the basis for bluewater RTW, even if I may never get a round tuit.

A half-dozen of these have sold for $5-15K this summer, and seems to me the 29 is much better value for my use case.

If I had $35K I think I'd be getting a Nor'sea 27, including the custom trailer.

I thumbs up the C29 for offshore. I sailed #77 "QueOnda" SF-Mexico-Hawaii-SF. On another occasion SF as far south as Ecuador. Handled well in the channels between the islands in Hawaii and in the Papagayos off of Costa Rica.

@John61ct,

Unfortunately I rarely go more than 10 miles off the coast so I can't give you any practical advise for the blue-water performance of either boat. That being said, I believe you are on the correct path with the C29 over the C28. If you have any specific questions about either I will answer as best I can.
