Re: Circumnavigation in MacGregor 26

About this time of year ( after hurricane season ) lots of MacGregor 26's will be headed to BVI and other islands mostly folks from Canada and northern USA. You will have lots of Mac friends and it might take you a long time just going from one island to another without crossing big water so have lots of fun and forget your worries.

You might want to document your boat, other countries like to see the USA Coast Guard paperwork and not from a state.

2 logs tied together is better than one.

Puerto del Rey, Fajardo is a great marina. Entrance has a rock reef about a half mile out making it very protected. This may be the largest marina I have ever visited, I believe it has close to a thousand wet slips and twice that many dry slips.
We were moored at the very end tie at the most distant pier, wound up buying an electric scooter just to go to the marina office as it was a 25 minute walk each way.

Fajardo: Scooter, Ha, I roller skated to the nearest West Marine, but was so tired when I got there, I bought a bicycle at the walmart across the street to peddle back.

We bought the scooters at the Pep Boys in town! It was a long way to the marina office to pick up mail...the boat was 124 feet long so we just kept them in the engine room with the battery chargers plugged in.

Re: Circumnavigation in MacGregor 26

BTW The Puluwatians, They sail from their small island all over the Pacific in sailing canoes some usually thirty feet or less. So a Mac would be a blessing.

I'm not a big M26 fan, especially after one capsized in San Diego Bay (known for it's rough conditions) and killed a couple of people aboard. The NTSB found it was overloaded and didn't have the water ballast filled but still, someone wants to take one of these toys out in the real ocean?
By the time the guy adds the equipment he listed (generator, watermaker, lead ballast, etc, etc) the boat will have exceeded it's posted weight capacity before adding food or crew...the Palu natives have better craft.

Re: Circumnavigation in MacGregor 26

And I bet the Palu natives build their boats out of..... logs.
