Cheoy Lee 43' Motorsailor

Hi all from Hamburg / Germany, i am actually in contact with the broker for a CL 43 Motorsailor here in europe and because these boats are really unknown here i need some advice form owners. I checked the ownerassociation but the forum is only about renovating very old sailing boats and all links are outdated.

I am not sure about the quality at all and unfortunatly the last owner did not did good maintenace.

Good thing is that there is a new mast and rigg installed 2003 and a deck renovation with epoxy treatment and a flexy cork deck installed which looks nice. All tanks are from RFRP so no problems with leaking fuel tanks

bad: electrical installation, oily ford lehman and very funny a kind of bitumen / asphalt oil residue in the forward and aft keel section. the middle section above the ballast have been galssed over and looks clean.

Thanks for all comments

While I don't own one now,i used to own a Frisco Flyer ...entire hull was mad of teak !
My opinion of the Cheoy lee boats of today ,made from glass is that there are many really ,really great boats out there. There also some good boats out there. I have never heard anything about bad ones...
I am looking for a boat and it is one of my 4 choices .
I think they are very good boats and perhaps the main difference is who desinged your particular boat...Perry designs are very good ,,,Garden designs are sometimes to my liking too.

Cheoy Lees were built to a very high standard, but that means nothing if the boat has been neglected.

Rather than hire a surveyor at this stage, find a good diesel mechanic to inspect the engine thoroughly (surveyors don't do this), and a rigger to verify the condition of the standing rigging (this requires a specialist, and the surveyor isn't one).

You'll still need a survey for insurance, etc. The outcome of the inspections above will determine if you even want to go that far into the purchase.
