Nope, these are all pics of boats at Shilshole, which I took while taking my evening paddle in the 'yak. Note the "Conan" skeleton battling a sea dragon on the sea wall in the background. Where else will you see that?

The reason the mast are so thick on this schooner is because.....


SHE is Gaff rigged. The gaff is the smaller boom at the head of the sail. Thus increasing her over all sail area. A hard boat to beat when she is on a close to a broad reach. And going down wind she really don't need a spinnaker. So that is why the masts are so large in order to support the weight and pressures of gaff sails.
Some of your modern racing sail boats now have square head sails to increase their sail areas. No quite Gaff rigged but getting there

Yeah, there are a lot of those very old dutch steel boats for fairly cheap out there. But a steel hull built in 1902? Not for me...

Maintenance aside. Every time I spy one of these, All I see is poetry on the water.

The only thing I would add would be a beautiful woman (or three) to complete the package

You sure like the high maintenance! A huge ancient steel boat and not one but three ladies! I can barely keep up with a glass boat and one woman myself...

I always go for challenges and avoided that main stream. I hope to move aboard one of these steel beauties in a year or two. I will probably pick one from that site, as they seem to have the best selection.

Here's another, albeit about 100K above my anticipated price range, but one never knows what opportunities may lay in waiting from now till then

If only she was aluminium...

...and mine, then she would be perfect. I like sailing boats who can actually "sail".

Look up Cigale from Alubat (FR) and Atlantic from Zaal (from Boatyard Atlantic, NL) - they are Ourson-like and alloy.

Of the two I think Atlantic does not plane all that easily, Ourson and Cigale do.
