That 30' 1939 Hinckley would be a nice restoration project if someone is into classic wooden boats.

A 14-foot mini-cruiser is minimalist. A 19ft is comfortable, and anything much larger than a 25 borders on ostentatious.

40 ft. Sail Boat Home Made

Looks like a boat that nobody in their right mind would dare touch, so could be good deal, or not worth touching...

Re: Cheap Yachts and Projects for sale / for free!

Not a yacht and not free, but I am very happy with my purchase a couple of days ago of a MacGregor 21 with a trailer and working outboard for about $1000. This is for solo cruises when I can't drag the whole family out on our larger boat. It can be towed with our smaller car (not the Chevy Suburban needed to tow our Cormorant), so I can get 4 to 6 hours to my favorite places along the coast at a reasonable cost, whenever I damn well please. Getting closer to my goal of "all sailing all the time."

I owned a V-21 for a few years and sailed the crap out of it. Took it from Anacortes to Friday Harbor and back when it was blowing 20. Great little boat.

Re: Cheap Yachts and Projects for sale / for free!

If you can get over that they are made of wood, then a Fairey Atalanta is good value (and some even in the USA). A good one probably around £6-8k.....a ropey one from free upwards (downwards?!).

The Owners Association has a list, including FREE ones:-

Boats for Sale - Atalanta Owners Association website

For 26 foot a go anywhere boat (skipper permitting!). Floats in a puddle of piss , but with twin drop keels draft goes up to around 6 feet.

A decent one will have no leaks as hot moulded from veneers and baked under pressure in an autoclave, except the transom which is plywood - 3 guesses how that can go . As good as it gets when it comes to wood - nonetheless after 50 years many do have issues - but FREE and cheap always has a cost!

Also a 23' version (the fulmar) and a 31' (Titania).

Re: Cheap Yachts and Projects for sale / for free!

I have a 36' STEEL PROJECT boat, and am motivated to give anyone willing and capable, a good price...

My crazy "uncle" gave me a fiberglass sailboat. So now I have a reason to sell the STEEL project boat.

Heavy Steel Sailboat Project

This boat deserves better than to be cut up for scrap, I hope.

I have lots of pictures.

PLEASE, no flames.

Re: Cheap Yachts and Projects for sale / for free!

Just passed up a Samson 55'er in Sydney a month ago due to not being able to find a haulout yard close and/or cheap enough to do my own work. It was free and had a freshly overhauled Isuzu diesel. Downside was that it was listing in the water, looks like it had lost part of the keel and NSW Maritime had placed an order on it to haul out immediately. For a ferro person this is no biggie, but does need to come out of the water to be fixed.

Details to anyone seriously interested. Vendor was somewhat apathetic with emails (understandably) but the yacht does exist, I've sailed past and looked her over.

Also needed a drive shaft and prop from memory. Would be a good project for a group of young guys with big dreams and low on cash.

Just passed on a free Montego 25. Needed the interior redone and new running rigging. Just finishing up our boat now, no time for another project.
