CHAINPLATE REBEDING AND DEPTH SOUNDER QUESTION (SO I DON'T CLOG UP BOARDS, THANK YOU)

Hello: my sailiboat has water stains on the bulkheads and so I need to rebed my chainplates. What do I use to rebed them? Also: I need a depth finder. Someone on craigslist has a GAMEFISHER DEPTH LOCATOR for $25.00. He says it doesn't take a transducer? Does this sound right? Did they ever make a model that just shoots the signal through the bottom of the unit itself? Thank you. Stephen

I use GE Silpruf to rebed my chainplates. It holds up really well.

Hi Hud,

What would you think about butyl tape for chainplates? No personal experience with this since had not heard of it before I took my sabbatical from boating to earn a living for 30 years, but I see it highly recommended for bedding deck fittings in general.

Maine Sail seems to love it. Makes me wonder if he has stock in the company.
