In dutch we call it the "Kuip"
Which if translated literally means the "tub".

Some look better than others. Often it is a matter of scale. Bigger boats often look nice with a CC. Smaller boats (less than 38 feet), not so nice sometimes. Some 40+ boats look "too tall" for my taste, but not all.

But there is a match out there for everyone if you look hard enough.
Somebody beat my 35' CC with an ugly stick and just would not stop.

Think you need to check your facts mate... the Cox-pit is where the Coxswain was stationed and also where the ships surgeon operated in time of battle in the Royal Navy..
Absolutely nothing to do with chickens..
Yet another politically correct urban myth thats totally wrong due to some stupid buga's mis-spelling years back and it catching on..
PS: <<<<<<<<<< sexy CC to port...

C.f. is being odd today. Yes. Blue tarp photo with no mast up is the only photo I happened to have on my smartphone.

Rather Its the pit for the coxswain.

Later, as trading happened, the "english" speaking ships visiting asia ports included cockpit referring to all things fowl.

A bit of an Etymology search might fix that for you.

However, changing it is just as silly as changing "man overboard" to "person/crew overboard"

I like that. Calling "crew member overboard" sounds about right.

US Army literally spent Millions of dollars changing and re-printing every aircraft manual it had, to change every where it said "Cockpit" to now say "Crew Compartment"
You can't make this up, that is not an Urban legend.

Also about the same time TIT for Turbine Inlet Temperature was changed to ITT for Inlet Turbine Temperature.
TIT was apparently offensive, gotta love Congress

Re: Center Cockpits

Because some how calling the airplanes control station a cockpit is somehow more offensive than dropping air burst incendiaries on women and children.
