Catalina 36 Cruising Vessel Suitability

Hello,

Has anyone cruised a late 1990s Catalina 36 model for any length of time, pehaps the Eastern seaboard, maybe the Carribean?

I know the newer ones are relatively lightly built but are they suitable for not crossing oceans and instead coastal cruising??

Any help, opinions experiences would be appreciated

Thanks

Several Catalina 36s have competed in and completed the Transpac.
Survey, upgrade as necessary and go cruising.

Re: Catalina 36 Cruising Vessel Suitability

The Catalina 36 is an excellent design for coastal cruising. That is really exactly what it was designed for. I probably wouldn't plan a circumnavigation in one, but given the right weather window I would not hesitate to take one on the "Highway 65" route to the Caribbean.

Edit: Ooh! My 1,000th post! Cool.
