Catalina 25 - what's this thing on the deck?

I was looking at a Catalina 25 yesterday, (I'm shopping for my first keel boat) and I saw a thing on the deck. It's broken, but I don't know what it is. It looks like a cover for something that has been removed.



Sorry about the picture, it had gotten dark by the time I noticed it. We are looking at the area between the forward hatch and the anchor locker at the bow.

Anybody know what it is, or was?

Hard to tell from your pic, but based off your location description, my guess is it's the v-berth skylight.

My gut tells me it's some sort of protection for the deck when raising or lowering the mast.....but it's just a guess.

I think the skylight idea is correct. I googled catalina v-berth skylight and found some discussions. Thanks!

It's the light for the V berth.

It's a deadlight (fixed skylight) over the v-berths. My 1983 C25 (just sold) had one. May need some caulking or replacement, which you can get from Catalina Direct.

For sure deadlight. Go in the v-berth during the day and you'll see how well it gives light to that area.

Not half as bad as a clear hatch! And easier to cover from the inside, too. Never had issues with it on our C22 or C25, there was more light coming in from the saloon anyway.
