What about the stick built interior on the older boats, vs the Mk2 has a drop-in interior liner? The former style's better for repairs / mods, right?

john on that front the older is better. Think its 0300 your offshore you hear a thud an water starts seeping into the wrong side of the boat. With a liner you won't be able to easily isolate and repair the damage without a haulout. No liner in a few minutes you have found the leak and with some wide flex tape the damage is fixed.

Yep that scenario certainly paints a vivid picture.

I immediately thought, "well if I had a Mk2 maybe an axe would help" 8-)

being a retired ht makes me always think about what to do in the worst case scenarios.

And at the same time hope they never happen. ( I've lost to many shipmates to the oh s!!!!!t situations. )

Plumber ,pipe fitter , shipwright, carpenter, welder, sheet metal , firefighter , locksmith, and damage control specialist.
( they actually brought the damage control rating separate from HTTPS after I went thru ht a school.)
