Re: Cant Identify this Hull

It looks like a Bruce Roberts "Spray".

Re: Cant Identify this Hull

I have a Roberts "Spray" and this looks like a Roberts "Spray". Spray was the name of the first boat to do a solo circumnavigation, in the early 1900s.
Jake Slocum wrote a book about his epic voyage. The Roberts "spray" design reflects the dimensions of the original "Spray".

Re: Cant Identify this Hull

On first impression, indeed looks like a Sampson C-Strutter, but.....
the boat in the photo is built in chines, and looks like in steel, not ferro.
Were there any Sampson ferro designs converted to/built in steel?

So back to the drawing board.
Here is a photo of a C-Strutter, which is BTW very similar to the C-Deuce, both a ketch of around 45 ft.

Re: Cant Identify this Hull

She is definitely a Steel Hull. I also initially assumed it to be a Spray. She is longer than 50 foot. Someone else has mentioned a Vanderstadt 54, but whilst it does look similar to a Vanderstadt 40, no 54's or vessels around that size, in that build, look similar.

I think you will find it was in the late 1800's. 1895 to be exact. I am currently reading the book
