Calling all San Diego Sailors!

Hi everyone, I'm visiting San Diego for two weeks and would like to sail as much as possible while here. Hopefully there are a few members here who will take pity on me and have me aboard.

I have taken an intro class with my local yacht club, something equivalent to ASA 101 so I am not a complete ignoramus. I really just need a lot more time on the water. Oh and I'm a 33yo male.

I did post on the Crew Available section but I figure day sailors aren't going to check there and I could get more eyeballs here. Hopefully moderators will allow it or they can take down my ad in the Crew section.
Call or text me directly at seven 0 two eight eight 4 five 6 zero 7.
Thanks,

Dave

Re: Calling all San Diego Sailors!

You're in luck! Hawaiian Chieftain and Lady Washington are going to be in town, and you can sail aboard both and maybe handle lines and even take the helm! You can see these two, and many more of the West Coast's most famous tallships at the Maritime Museum of San Diego.

(And on the Q.T., just between you and me, ask them how to become real crew. If you want to spend a couple of weeks aboard, they have a training program you might be interested in.)

Check out Sailing Anarchy, you might find an open spot on that site.

Yep, tried meetup. A lot of the groups are using charters which raises the cost significantly. I joined a few groups though.

I found a FB group through sailing anarchy for SD crew so a big thanks for that tip.

Re: Calling all San Diego Sailors!

After living and sailing in San Diego for 13 years, we moved to Florida. My family still lives there so when I go back, I go to the mission bay hilton and rent one of their 16 footers. It's a no lose situation. You always have the same wind, same direction. Fairly reasonable. I go for a couple of hours, usually alone (took the inlaws once, whole nother story). Great way to hone your skills for an easy price. Enjoy.

That was (unclearly) intended for the OP who has been offered a ride. Details were in a PM.

LL , check out Shelter Island . Last year we were down there stayed at the Kona Ki hotel . In the Kona's bar was a sign up sheet for a sail on the original Stars and Stripes of AC Dennis Conners fame .

Re: Calling all San Diego Sailors!

Thanks for the replies. I've been out twice now but there wasn't any wind yesterday so we ended up motoring the bay and checking out the maritime museum. Hoping for wind tomorrow for my final sail of the trip.
