Calcium in Aluminum Water Tanks fix?

I have a 1983 Brewer 12.8sloop. It has 2 60 gallon water tanks of Aluminum. I openen them up today and was shocked that all insides were coated with Calcium discs ! they are about from 1/2 to 1 1/2 inches diameter and some are 1/2 inch thick . they scrape off easily. How can I clean this all out??? Help? thanks George
