Cal 44 for Circumnavigation

I am contemplating purchasing an older, but well-equipped Cal 44 for an anticipated 5-6 year circumnavigation. As there were not many built, it is difficult to obtain info.

Can anyone share info on this boat, particularly with respect to its construction and suitability for blue water cruising? Secondary information is also welcomed.
