Cal 28 Guide/Manual

Hello fellow sailers, my fiancÚ and I purchased a 1965 Cal 28 to learn sailing on before moving up to bigger and better. I have not been able to locate any reading material or instructional guides for anything with Cal 28.

If you have or know where to locate any of this please let me know.

Re: Cal 28 Guide/Manual

Hi Shizog4,

Welcome to CF!

The Cal 28 is an incredibly popular boat for many reasons.... Primary is that there were a TON of Cal boats... Here's sailboat data... a simple search should lead to numerous owners groups...

CAL 28 sailboat specifications and details on sailboatdata.com

Good Luck!

Re: Cal 28 Guide/Manual

Yes I've seen this, but nothing else. Was wondering if there was anything else out there and maybe video tutorials I can watch when not on the boat actually learning ... I've searched Google and YouTube and found minimal stuff. Hopefully somebody out there has something else

Re: Cal 28 Guide/Manual

Unlikely you will ever find one. Best to get some general sailing books, general maintenance books, and a repair manual for your outboard (or inboard).

If you've no sailing experience at all, a sailing school is nice but not necessary. If you've got some sailing friends, or can make some, that's also a plus.

When I first expressed interest in learning to sail many years ago, a sailing friend said to me -

"I can teach you everything you need to know about sailing in 15 minutes, but it will take you 15 years to become a sailor."

He was right.

Lol nice quote, I have a buddy who is teaching me soon just been busy with schedules. Trying to work around that by learning as much prior to sailing. I've been interested in sailing for years and have watch and read a ton so I do know a good bit. Now I just need to put it all together

I'll bet with enough digging you'll find a Cal owners manual, maybe... maybe not a 28...
