C&C35 MK1 rudder replacement URGENT

Hello,
Did anybody replace a rudder on C&C35 Mk1?
Will a rudder of newer design fit into the older boat?

The rudder post snapped. Need to make a new one in Rogers Bay, South Africa.

Try Southshores Yachts in Niagara on the lake. They sell C&C parts.

I call them few times but there is only a machine answering, no call back yet.

They might have a mold for a newer rudder that is why I am asking whether it will fit the original hull with no modifications.

Might be cheaper to have Richards Bay make you up a new rudder, using the dimensions from the actual boat. You could spend a bundle shipping the wrong pieces back and forth. C&C is still in business (owned by Tartan, I believe) so you should be able to get a set of drawings from them, if nothing else. Having a naval architect oversee the design of the new rudder might provide improved performance. The original "scimitar" design seems to have had a lot of wetted surface and not may not be as effective as a more modern higher-aspect blade.

You might try the C&C user groups too, I've found the "new" C&C company doesn't have a lot of interest in the boats built before their purchase of the rights to the C&C line, although they have built some fine all new designs.

Try the "c&cphotoalbum.com" site, it's a good start for C&C reference information and enthusiasts.
I found much help there during my years of C&C ownership.

Steve Brown; Finco in Santa Ana CA if you can't find any other way.

He's also Foss Foam. They'll do a great job. Tartin indeed owns C&C, not shure if they would still have the tooling for your boat though.

Re: C&C35 MK1 rudder replacement URGENT

Tartan would not likely have the molds, the original C&C really started into bankruptcy when the production yard burnt, taking most of those molds and the buildings with it.
I don't believe Tartan acquired any of the original tooling with the purchase of the rights to C&C, which is why they produced all new designs upon re-introducing the brand.
You'll either be going with someone like Foss Foam or another aftermarket producer. While their at it they might even be able to improve it a little.
The alternative is to copy a design from a similar sized boat and build one yourself, most C&C rudders were designed to have just enough rudder for the boat while trying to minimize drag, which means under certain circumstances you can lose lift on one.
