C&C 36

Anyone has advice on a 36 C&C centerboard 1980, I am buying a sailboat for the first time and planning to go on the St-Lawrence river, the maritimes and the bahamas, is this a good sailboat for what I want to do.

Re: C&C 36

I've heard good things...

St Lawrence is a bit challenging for a boat that's untested and new to her owner... That goes for any boat -

Good luck

Re: C&C 36

I owned and sailed a C&C 36 for a few years. Sailed from Vancouver to Mexico to Hawaii and back to Vancouver so I got a good sense of the boat. Its a fast 36 for its day (IOR) but not too extreme. Have the rudder carefully checked as well as the rudder bearings and cables. Also check all the chain plates for leaks/corrosion as well as any damage to the mounting areas. It may still have the original rod rigging. Have it surveyed well. For your use it should be fine. The centerboard (ours was fixed keel) can be noisy at anchor if its on the loose side. Talk about memories!!

Re: C&C 36

Thanks for the info, yes I plan to have the boat survey thoroughly, has for the St-Lawrence before we go that route my wife and I will be sailing on Champlain lake for a few years. I have sailed when I was 17-18 but it's been 40 years now
