C&C 34"?

We're looking at a '78 to weekend sail on Lake Erie. We would use it to learn about what we want in our future boat and plan to trade up in 4-5 years. It's a comfortable size for our family, the price is right, we could sail it as is and don't plan to do much, if anything, in terms of upgrades. It's already in the marina we would use. We want to become good sailors and are looking more for a good teacher than an easy boat and hope that would fit the bill within our modest budget. We would, of course, have it surveyed, but beyond that wonder if there's anything to recommend or advise against this particular model for our current needs. Thank you in advance!
