C&C 27 Mk V

I am new to sailing living in New Mexico. I am contemplating purchasing a c&c 27 mk V to learn to sail on Elephant Butte Lake. It appears well maintained and the owner clearly cares for his boat. I plab to relocate within a year or two near salt water, where i plan to do some coastal cruising. Any thoughts on the c&c for my purposes?

Re: C&C 27 Mk V

These boats have been a solid sailor on the east coast of Canada for many years. Many at my marina. i started with a 25' many years ago. Now have a Mirage, another well built Cdn boat. The MK 5 is the faster, IMHO, of all the 27's. Watch for leaks at toe rail, if its been raced all the usual, tabs broken, etc. decl stepped so check the post and support piece in the bilge. Was on one last weekend, owner babies it but sails hard. maintains and checks everything. replaces when needed and it is one sweet boat. I would recommend it to a beginner or for someone wanted to go coastal. Now, because they were built as racer cruiser, they tend to heel quick but only go so far then just shoot ahead. very competitive if you are into that. Great boat
