Something between 37 and 40ft, preferably in Qld, that doesn't need a whole lot doing to it and costs under AUD$100k. I want something I can use, mostly coastal (ultimately some bluewater but no Cape Horn type adventures) and happily tackle a bit of maintenance but I don't want a project.
Thoughts?

Regards, Andrew.
Even a new boat is a project. You have a budget for purchase but do you have a budget for ownership ?
Some say marina fees + 10% of purchase price !
Others just let the boat rot away on a mooring because they didn't allow for ownership costs.
Yet others happily own a project boat and just enjoy looking after it.

Yachts are bottom less pits for money thats there nature, even though there aged they still got many years left if cared for, on going maintenance you cant escape, theres no reason to not take on an oldie, change your mind set , sooner or later youll find that old lady you will instantly fall in love and the rest is fun

BobnLesley that’s so common people regretting not taking the first offer and instead waiting for a higher price. I surveyed one yacht last week where there was a lot of issues and the owner should have made a deal with the potential buyer. But instead the boat went back in the water and the owner is now waiting for another buyer and hopefully a different surveyor who will not find all the issues.
Cheers
I sailed with the broker on Saturday and I asked if there had been any interest in the Baltic. He said one word. GONE. which was great for him. Obviously. But I was disappointed as I was seriously tempted. She was a good boat at a good price.

Re: Buying a mono in Australia and not going mad. Possible?

Here is another good boat - I have been on this one again a good boat a good price - currently raced weekly.
Sunshine Boat Sales, sail boats, power boats, yachts, boats, Brisbane, Queensland, marine Broker

or this one
Sunshine Boat Sales, sail boats, power boats, yachts, boats, Brisbane, Queensland, marine Broker
as above except i haven't been onboard...

I have no interest in either of these boats - I am merely trying to help out here.

Re: Buying a mono in Australia and not going mad. Possible?

I sorted out what I wanted first, It had to sit flat and level when parked on a beach,
Or low water in a creek or river, I wanted to walk on the floor, Not the walls of it,

Mono's with twin keels, as in Britain, They sit upright, I did seriously consider one of those,

I ended up with a Multi Hull, Small draught, 600 mm, narrow beam, 14 feet wide, It will go into a standard Marina Slip, Ocean going, With all the Bells and whistles, No Maintenance needed, Ready to sail any where,
Can be sailed Single handed,
Bought sight unseen off the internet, But lots of piccys, Inside and out,
It came with a full list of what it had on board, And its maintenance history, from brand new,

I paid for the survey myself, By my choice of Surveyor, I had it water surveyed and hauled out for a full survey on the hard,

I looked at lots of boats here in OZ, Mono's and Multi's,
The Multis needed lots of work and were also out of my financial depth,
I just didnt like Mono's for what my use was going to be,

I bought this Multi in Fiji as it was half the cost of buying one in OZ,
There was an identical boat in San Diego, USA for the same money,
But 12000 miles for my first ocean crossing was a bit much, Even for me,

Yes, I got the perfect boat for me, It needed nothing done to it, Pay, Plug and play,
Im am a buyer and a tite arse, I get the most boat I want for the least amount of dollars,
I bought my boat privately from the owner direct,

Its even better if the seller is desperate for a sale, You can squeeze them even more,
If they lose out big time, Thats there problem, not mine,
Sitting in a marina is costing them big money, Reducing the price of a boat,

It took about a year before I got the boat I wanted, Many Many long hours on the internet,

A boat is a hole in the ocean you pour money into,

Just my 2 centavo's worth,

Cheers, Brian,

There's a lovely monohull in Auz posted on the $30,000 or less thread started by Steadman Ullman. Maybe that's for you...?

Missed a pretty decent deal here -

https://www.australiawide.com/austra...adt-34/234532/

I rang up a day or two after it was a sold which was two days after it was listed.

Anyway the search continues.

I cant find the one referred to re the 30k mono thread ?

A link?

Thanks everyone for their input. It is all appreciated.

Yeah for the price, going by the photos it looked like a bargain. The S&S 34 is another great yacht. Anyway good hunting.

Yeah, nah. If I wanted a project this is a great slightly smaller one - https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/maro...der/1220306601

Still too much work for me.

Pretty boat but maybe too far gone.

Re: Buying a mono in Australia and not going mad. Possible?

NotEntirelySure she could be a bargain but no mention of the rigging age, what does cosmetic interior tidy up mean and how bad is the gearbox repair? Been in Asia for 12 years, does that mean completely flogged and now want to get rid of my problem?

Still book us a flight and I will go check her out Andrew!
Cheers

What's challenging about Langkawi, MY?

It has an airport, so you can fly there or catch a ferry from Penang.

Langkawi is a duty free port, so you can import anything needed for repairs etc. Surprisingly good yard workers for any job you dinnae wan' to do yerself. Close to ThaiLand if you want to buy good teak (and Myanmar is about to start selling plantation teak again) or prefer to use a Thai boatyard. Excellent food. Three good marinas.
