Re: Buizen 52 - Ultimate Cruiser?

My wife and I are very happy with our totally refit Oyster 53, which is basically the same as the Oyster 54. In order to get out of the elements when necessary, we added a complete cockpit canvas encloser. This way, we can remove parts of it in warmer climates. Usually, we just sail with the bimini and dodger, sometimes without the windscreen. No problems with all the automatic push button gadgets, all of them have manual over rides anyway.

Oyster customer service has been exceptional.

Re: Buizen 52 - Ultimate Cruiser?

One of the french aluminium centreboarders would suit me down to the ground, probably 50 footer or so cutter rigged.....

Or a Van de Stadt same specs.....

I'm really diggin the Boreal Yachts, they look like serious expedition boats. Maybe not the perfect tropical boat, but a entire world cruiser.

I'd prefer no centerboard for strictly sailing purposes, but you can't argue with their versatility.

Although, I could be sold on another aluminum expedition style boat.

Re: Buizen 52 - Ultimate Cruiser?

Ultimate Cruiser? Unless, high price and poor value are your metrics, then most certainly not. Its just another high priced boat. Pour enough money into any hull and you'll get an impressive spec sheet.

Every boat represents a compromise in way or the other, there no such animal as the ultimate or the universal ideal cruiser.

Bang for buck? You'd do far better with a whole host proven cruising designs from any of the top quality builders in the USA or Europe. The Hallberg Rassy range, Amels and Morris Yachts, come to mind among many others. Although, an especially nice one would be 52 RS - Morris Yachts
