Wow. I royally pissed you off, didn't I? Don't take it so personal. I just thought it was kind of funny, and a good example of a bad listing by a broker.

Oh, by the way, that is NOT the ad that I saw. Clearly it is for the same boat, but the ad that I saw had a lot less information in it--what I quoted and almost nothing else.

I'm a current broker. I love these threads because I get an outside perspective about my profession. You learn what to and not to do. I've learned like skipmac that honesty is most important, not only in sales but in life. In the end, deception results in hurt feelings and a lot of wasted time / money for all parties.

Re: Broker-speak

You need to have a thick skin, don't you Richard. I think the rants about brokers are over done. I've had nothing but good experiences with honest, professional brokers.

Re: Broker-speak

So far, I have been very lucky with both brokers and surveyors.
Reading an ad on Yachtworld and then calling the broker can prove to be vastly different.
The ads are sometimes very vague and you might get the impression that the boat is 'OK". When you call the broker you will get as much detail as you ask for and then some. It has saved me many long distance trips and also the hiring of surveyors.
When I bought my current sailboat, I lived in Rockport, Tx and the boat was in Tampa Bay, Fl. This is approx. 1200 miles away. The broker described every defect as best he could and when we got there, the boat was exactly like he described it. No better, no worse.
Though I have heard stories to the contrary by other people.
