Bristol 30 or 29

hey there I am new to this site. A little while back I bought a Bristol 30. It's in fairly good shape but I have a few questions. My title says Bristol 30 but the whole layout of the boat looks more like a Bristol 29. It has the quarter berth and the lazarette hatch as well. they started building the 30's in 68. Mine is a 1970, hull #98. Has anyone heard of a 30 footer built resembling a 29? I am thinking I may have a 29 and somebody goofed on the title.
thanks

It's quite possible that someone goofed on the title, because what gets entered into the computer pretty much depends on what's on the application form - especially likely if the boat changed registration from state to another state, or documented to state.

As long as the hull number is right, don't worry about it.

Re: Bristol 30 or 29

They're actually the same boat measuring 29'6". The main difference between these two boats are in the cabin top. The B30 is standing head room down below most all the way forward because the cabin top doesn't drop down like the B29. I think there are some other minor differences between some cabinets and things, but other than that it's all the same hull and below the waterline.

The hull numbers (HIN) on the Bristol tell you the boat model. For example: BTY 340620976 says it is a 34' number 62 made in sept of 1976. Check the HIN near the stern on the starboard side.

Went to see b-29 today man was it cold on Lake Erie today!! We looked on all over did not find any hin# number on the outside of hull. I have owned her for 9 years now and I think it might be inside. I have been inside every nook and hook thought I remember seeing somewhere anybody have any more thoughts on this.

When boats were manufactured before i believe early 70's they did not have the 12 digit hull identification number that are used today. The only number we could find on our boat was on the mast and that was #85. When we went to register our 1968 b29 we had to have the state enviromental police come out to the boat and assign a hull identification number to it.

Re: Bristol 30 or 29

hey i found an old bristol owners forum for those of you out there that may have the same problem as me. My boat turned our to be a 29 footer. the web page is Bristol Owners' Association Home Page it has not been updated in a while but there is a large number of boats registered there. Mine is one of the few that has made it to the pacific nw. i have her on the hard right now all deck fittings pulled. Rebedding the deck, going to put new non-skid down. Only rot i found so far was in the bulkhead at the back of the quarter berth. Seems to be leaking from the stern rail mount. Also getting new hull and bottom paint. I am also going to change to external chain plates. As close to the rail as the lowers are i won't lose any measurable pointing. Anyone else made this change out there?

Re: Bristol 30 or 29

Looked all over my boat by the way and can't find any HIN. Thanks for the replies. I will post some pics as my project progresses. Target date for back in the water is April 1st.

I have a 1967 B29 Hull #7. The only hull plate was a round plate located on the back of the cockpit. I have confirmed this with David Browne, the owner of #165 built in 1971. His hull plate was in the same location and was a coated plastic, I was not so lucky, mine is a very pitted and corroded piece of aluminum.

Check out his website at Bristol 29 A restoration site for owners and admirers of Bristol Yachts

He has helped me with some repairs (via email)

OP: the keel and fore cabin top do not look like a B29. I would venture a guess that you have a B30.
