Re: Bombigher - Shpountz is a good idea?

K_V_B!

After your last reply is clearly to me, that you are a skipper on Oosterschelde.
Can you tell me some experience about shipping a classic bout (I'm interested in a smaller gaffed schooner: Shpountz 38-40)?
What do you suggest to me, what are the most important skills, observations? How to think (opposite to a modern build yacht) about a high ocean sailing (even in rough conditions too)?
What do you think about a Shpountz?
What do you think about this boat: SHPOUNTZ 38/40-1998 ?
If I may to decide to buy a boat, like she, what are the most important details, I have to look for?

Thanks!

It's "Lucie Maria" it's a very nice build Shpountz.
The owner is an ex "pilot" (boat) and the price is fair.
The color.... You can change it if you want.
It's a "barre franche" (tiller ??) and I wanted a wheel

Shpountz73!

Thanks for the quick reply! What do you know about the boats story, about the couple, who were built her?

I agree with you about the wheel, but what do you think (maybee: what do you know), how big refit or rebuild will necessary whit her? How expensive could this be?

Thanks again!

It's a nice boat
The owner made it itself
But I did not seen the boat since 10 years so I don't know how it's look like at this moment.
To put a wheel is not a very difficult challenge but it as to be strong.
For the refit I don't know it's depend on your skill nd wishes...

Boat: So many boats to choose from. Would prefer something that is not an AWB, and that is beachable...

Oh no. I'm not a Skipper on that fine boat. But I have sailed in her. I have also sailed on other classic boats, like a Hereshoff Marco Polo, also a three master. We often sailed that one with just three persons, one who was in his seventies.
You can handle a big boat with a small crew. You do have to use your brains.

Shpountz73!

"For the refit I don't know it's depend on your skill nd wishes..."

I thought about (for example) the hull. She is 20 years old. What kind of problems should I calculate, how big (and expensive) rebuilding, refitting would be necessary?

What is your opinion?

Thanks!

My hull is 25 years old... And there is nothing to do...
An antifouling every 1 or 2 years.
Don't forget that's a 3 planking glued hull. If it's well done it will fit for years and years...
For the rest I don't know but I'm quiet sure that the boat is ok

Shpountz73!

I mean, that this boat was standing for a long time, and don't know, if she got the successful paintings meanwhile (for example). I thought my question to looking for even hidden mistakes, damages too.

By the way: could you tell me something about the insurance (if I'm not too discreet) - how it works, how many, what are the rules?

Thanks!

There is only one solution... Go and see !
For the insurance I've a full one for 150 000 € and I pay 540€/Y
