Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

I'm amazed at how cheap some of these boats are compared to Australian prices.

RC: Try checking mainland prices occasionally, they're far more reasonable.

A few hundred will get you a 22'er in Sydney every day of the week.

Thanks. I'm aware there cheaper on the mainland than here. Which is why I purchased mine from SA. But the prices over there in the USA are clearer much cheaper again.

True, sub 26' & pretty cheap on Gtree or the ebuy, once you get to 28 like say a compass/swanson & jacks up quite a bit. Every month or so an older ior or similar around 30-36 will come up for 5-30k. My Carter 33 was in that range with great sail wardrobe, young rig, radios, instruments & a few minor age issues that will only amount to a few k over a year or two to sort with my own(shipwright) labour- fairly simple stuff & plenty of help on the boards for the inexperienced. The Carter would be good for a reef trip as I bought it & great layout for a family. Saw one go with a fair bit work to do on the hard in Vic for 6-7k but a great low $ start.

22 foot macgregor sailboat. Comes with everything needed to sail. Swing keel, roller furler.
Comes with trailer that was only used for two seasons. I have the paper work on trailer and boat. The trailer is fairly new and goes for around $1200.
I bought the boat off original owner. I haven't used it the last couple of seasons. Don't want to pay storage if I'm not using it. Boat and trailer are free. You have to take both. I also have a 15 hp yamaha 4 stroke engine for $1400 if you need a motor."

I will pay for the transfer from stands to trailer. It's in a boatyard. Also has working sails, new winch for raising and lowering keel. Needs some cosmetic work. Sails very nice."
free sailboat with newer trailer
Holy crap! If only I were closer.........What do you think the towing weight on that would be? HMM, 850 miles....

Boat and trailer are about 2,700 lbs. Equipment will add more weight to that as would the outboard.

I saw a Bob Miller IOR on the south coast of NSW go for $4000 which would just about equal the scrap value of the bronze keel. They're out there.

Personally I like the Harley Tasman I'm sitting in now, paid for it with the results of my first year of giving up smoking. The devil didn't build _all_ ferros.

They're out there all right, though not many have bronze keels.

10/23 There's an 80s.. 54 Hunter in CA, US on Yachtworld.. 30k Says sale pending.. couple others around 50K.. I imagine a 54 fin keel moves along pretty well... 300 sq ft of living space.. guess you would be stuck on a mooring ball for rent. On the bright side, the front deck would hold a nice sized runabout...

This is not my boat, but it seems about 40% of the asking of most 30-1 Morgan of that era.

30-1 Morgan in Florida
