But then i remember'd that mine is paid for and i have just as much fun on it as i could with that new shinny one without all the worry about PAYMENTS or the economy. When money is short and the WIFE leaves me I won't lose much
LOL
And that is the bottom line, well said!

Moral of the story is marry your boat, not the hot chick down the street. She is a lot easier to sell when she gets old and cranky.

If a Shannon 53 had not given her boat lust I would question her intelligence.

Re: Boat Lust - Is This a Sin?

I purchased my first yacht a month ago. I looked a hundreds (perhaps thousands) on line, (thanks Boss) and viewed around 30, (thanks Beloved!) I'm happy with what I brought and it will do me for some years to come. That doesn't mean I don't still look at boats on line most days (thanks again Boss.) as one day I may want to move on.

I'm careful to tell my boat how much I love her and go down to the marina mid week to give her a pat. (Just in case she thinks i'm neglecting her!)

I also have a '59 MGA which I've owned since 1990. She runs beautifully and is part of the family. Occasionally I think about selling her. It seems to always be around these times she spends a week sulking in the garage refusing to start. I have learnt to be careful of stray thoughts.

What you have would make the seven year itch look like a minor rash.

There's no such thing as the ultimate boat - it doesn't exist!

The ultimate boat is your next boat. That is until you get it and then it's your next boat.

Dicipline is the key. Just make your next boat the one you have.

Re: Boat Lust - Is This a Sin?

Don remember

Jimmy Carter "lusted in his heart"

I unbelievably fortunate. My boat is docked right outside my kitchen door. I'm sitting at my kitchen table while I write this and looking at her.

She is perfectly aware of all my sinful thoughts, but has the attitude

"you can gather appetite looking at others in town, as long as you eat dinner at home"

There's an XC45 docked right next to mine - gads- what a lovely boat. 20 yards away there isa 50 foot black carbon and graphite one-off racer. It is goddamn almost sinful just to look at her. She oozes speed and pain.

I guess I'm just a masochist.
