Blue Water Capable Or Am I Crazy?
My wife and I love our boat but it's a little cramped so we are looking to move up. She has sort of fallen in love with this one and I wonder if you think it is blue water capable or am I crazy?
It's a little over 50 feet on deck with an 18 foot beam. The owner claims to have crossed the Atlantic on it several times.
I like that it has plenty of deck space so I can stow a big rigid dink without clumsy looking davits on the back but I also understand the deck is where the crew sleeps.
This could be a potential shortcoming because, in spite of the bulwarks, the freeboard is actually quite low and I understand the decks are sometimes awash.
One thing I am also unsure about is the standing rigging is made from rope and not wire which seems a bit old fashioned, any idea what that would cost to replace?
Thanks

you could put a "crew wanted" notice on CF and see if you have any takers

I think it will be just fine. But, it will cost a fortune to add the Sugar-scoop when you decide to modernize her.

Re: Blue Water Capable Or Am I Crazy?
Like I said, my wife is all in love with it. She think it looks "shippy" but I am more concerned with the fact that it has a tiller for steering and like zero electronics.
Is a boat like that safe to take on the ocean? Or would I have to spend too much money on upgrades just to be safe?

Different guy. The current owner is Italian but the boat's home port is in Spain.

That sounds like a real PIA, the wife is not going to be too happy about that.

I just spoke with Boatman, said he is sending you a quote for the delivery. No crew needed, just his spot will be with him.

Re: Blue Water Capable Or Am I Crazy?
Good news is a tiller autopilot cost less, bad news is there are more of those boats below the waves than on them.
Paint her white as she would be hot in the tropics.

We did look at that guy's boat. I really liked it and thought it had sexy lines but my wife was turned off by the galley arrangement and the lack of a deck.
This guy also says he's been across the Atlantic, which surprises me a bit since all he had for a compass was a shard of lodestone floating on a piece of wood in a bowl of water, mentioned something about low-tech being good for the environment.
