Another of those things we agonised about. They do improve the exterior appearance, but inside is where they are really gorgeous. They are beautifully crafted with SS rims around the glass and SS round "lids" that screw down to cover them. The thought of lying in bed and seeing the water at eye level was very appealing.
But, the bottom line is that we wanted to minimise any potential problems. Those portholes are frequently underwater when the boat is driven hard in rough conditions. The light wasn't needed. Our main living areas will be absolutely flooded with light from the 3 m long pilothouse top that overhangs the galley and salon by about a metre.

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
The main body of the solar arch looks about ready to be inserted and welded on.
The bits at the end that kink and are not smoothly sanded will sit below deck level and will be welded to the framework. The bar in the middle is temporary:
The solar panels will sit on top of these two short legs:

Three Sunpower X21 335 in black, giving a total of just over 1000 watts.

Had not heard of the "X series before..Beautiful panels!
Found an interesting discussion, comparing the E Series and the X Series.
