I second that!

A side view from this vertical position shows the lines and how the interior spaces relate to each other:

Is this not a practice run to see if the mono holds the position?

It is a very unusual force to put on a boat, particularly without any deck structure, but they have welded some temporary supports to compensate. The minimum hull thickness is 8mm, so I doubt anything will bend.

SWL

The dent looking things appear on the bow topsides prior to turning.....just curious

Re: Bestevaer 49ST

Those marks, I think, are some last minute sanding marks done just before the move to flip.

I am guessing someone spotted some minor flaws that needed attention, and they will finish them up when they get it back in the shop. There they will be on the low side and easy to reach.

Speculation.

Edit to add,..... check post 895 for a better look.

I am just speculating here too, but I think the visible marks were where various aluminium supports were welded on to the hull during the build. Some of these needed to be cut and ground off at the last moment.

Alu construction is very different to fibreglass. Attachments can simply be welded on as needed and ground off later (even scaffolding for workers). You can see these all over the boat during construction.

The hull at this stage is not fully finished. It sometimes looks quite rough when flipping occurs.

Now that you say that, it does look more like sanding/grinding marks more than denting.....

Re: Bestevaer 49ST

SL, yes, posts 890-893 all show the temp pieces you mention, just before the first post with the hull more finely sanded.

Guessing they cut them off, dressed the spots, and sanded in prep to move. Then someone with a good eye said, "hold up, we need to hit a few spots again".

Probably trying to get her flipped before days end, but still with good attention to quality. A good sign in my opinion.

Next stage in the turning.

Sorry I am a bit slow to post this sequence. Not enough hours in the day.

Re: Bestevaer 49ST

The rest of the process must have been easier once vertical was passed:

Almost the right way up now. That is another Bestevaer 49 in the background - Zwarte Raaf (Black Raven), the last one built. Our pilothouse is longer than this, plus we will have an arch at the rear accomodating solar panels and dinghy davits:

KM have put a 23 second time lapse video of the flip on their FB page. The process apparently took about 45 min:

With as square and sharp edged the boat is, I really love those round ports in the hull...... Still sure about not adding them?
