That was precisely the brief for the suitability of the custom made hatches . We saw them bolted on for the first time this morning.

Re: Bestevaer 49ST

An example of 3 custom built Bestevaers in KM's stable:

A new 45 footer that is close to being delivered is in the water.
The 53 footer on the travel lift's slings has new owners.
And our 49 footer, about to be tested with fresh water:

Yes, topsides will be left bare.
This is also a minimal amount of non skid deck paint (pure white was decided on for that after the earlier discussions on this thread).

Yes, it is really close now. The end of June has been given as the estimated finish time, so a lot will start to happen pretty quickly now.

The building of the interior has commenced. A huge area has been put aside and the jigsaw puzzle of pieces sorted into sections. It will be fun watching that grow .

Looking really good SWL.

What type of cutlass bearing / shaft seals and packing gland does the yard use?

Is the stern tube filled with grease or oil?

The transmission is connected to an Aquadrive CV joint, then to a PSS dripless shaft seal, then to a duplex stainless steel shaft and a Brunton auto prop.

The PSS seal is not connected to the big aluminium tube, but instead to a fibreglass inner tube with seals at both ends. This is quite a complicated and expensive solution that is not quite in keeping with the overall KISS approach, but KM were keen to engineer the system this way and have assured us it will work well.

Re: Bestevaer 49ST

Work is progressing quickly at the moment and there are all sorts of new things to ooh and aah over each time we visit the yard .

Swimming platform seen down for the first time. That is our engine sitting unpacked under the boat:

The cabin top has now been moved to the finishing area too and inverted:

The interior is being constructed over a template of the floor. This is the shell for the bed and adjacent lockers. The twin drawers are around 800mm long and look cavernous. The first bit of solid wood trim has been placed :
