Something to consider now: friends who designed and built their own ally boat have hinged openings (the hinges are like piano hinges) in the coaming to accommodate the tails of the lines that come through the rope clutches. The "lid" of the box has a cut-away portion to allow them to close with the lines inside. it keeps the cockpit very tidy. They have a lot of lines, because they run 4 with each headsail, to allow both inboard and outboard sheeting, and all lines come back to the cockpit. They ran a few through the on-deck handrails.

I'm so glad you guys are sharing this. I just really love seeing the boat take shape, and find it both graceful and beautiful, as well as STRONG.

I'm glad you are enjoying watching the build process. It has been a real thrill for us.

Thanks for the line storage tip. There is not much room on the top of the combing for any lids, as we will have 6 winches, but we have four openings in the combing sides to stuff the tails of lines.

The word "strong" keeps popping up . Not surprisingly this was first item in the design brief. "Simple, reliable, low maintenance systems" and "leak free" were way up there too. With just two of us on board, "manageable essentially singlehanded" was another requirement. The list grew from there .

I have been a lurker on this thread since it started. I get excited each time a new post is added in the hopes that new pictures are coming my way! Selfish yes. You have put a great deal of thought into every,last detail and it shows. I can't wait to see the finished product. If I knew the Netherlands better I might actually sneak over and see it...

There is such a thing as too much information .

When we visited the yard they were hard at work on our boat and even when outside we could hear the bang of metal hitting metal. We cringed hearing every single blow. Didn't want to know what they were doing .

We do appreciate though how KM are willing to share images and that they encourage yard visits. Production boat builders sometimes don't let you anywhere near your boat during the construction phase. This allows them to cover up all sorts of sins. Nice to know KM are proud of their work.

A webcam would be infringing on worker's rights of privacy and non publication, which we take seriously in this country. It could also complicate other projects that the builder is working on, not all future owners are so keen on publicity.

The gas locker has had its door fitted. This area will fit 4 monster sized bottles (15 kg each) and dinghy fuel. Our current boat will fit this number. Propane can be difficult to buy and many taxis won't permit it in their vehicles, plus fittings and bottle sizes vary between countries, so having a large supply greatly reduces cruising hassles.

We pour pore over the photos when they arrive, getting excited about each new detail spotted .

The triangular wedges running down the centre of the cockpit floor here are foot supports. The two holes in them are pots for the cockpit table. The cockpit drains in the front corners are 100 mm in diameter. The height of the entry can be seen clearly here too (the bar across the top is temporary).

The steps covered in cardboard lead down to the cavernous rear area. This is far too large to call a lazarette, so we simply refer to it as "the garage". From memory, the cockpit seat hatches are around 1.7 m long:

It must be amazing to have that much sheet Alu on hand and be able to take it and measure for the CAD and see the perfect shape appear. Then to place and weld to the structure so very neatly...

Its going to be a strong beastie.
