It needs to be a minimum distance from the waterline and this just manages to achieve this.

The wide angle shot is a bit deceptive though. It is still a fair way forward if you look at the profile:

Ahh, yes, compromises...
But, as compromises go, yours is a beautiful one :-)

A word that rears its ugly head with just about every decision that needs to be made, if only for cost reasons. I do feel extraordinarily lucky though that we are getting a chance to make these compromises .

Re: Bestevaer 49ST

Pilothouse construction has commenced. These nine windows will flood the galley and saloon with light, as a metre at the front will extend past the pilothouse itself, increasing the height in the area below:

Re: Bestevaer 49ST

Oh wow.... at first I envisioned the pilothouse sitting on the boat as pictured above, with the reverse rake/expedition style windows! But alas, I forget everything is flipped around for now. Looks awesome. Will there be hatches on the roof of the pilothouse?

I sometimes flip the photos to help perspective .

Yes, there will be two 500 x 500 mm hatches towards the front of the pilothouse roof.

We have one hatch above the driver's seat. It's nice to check the mainsail and windex through that hatch.

Re: Bestevaer 49ST

When I bought Stargazer, one item I was unhappy with, was a very large double sized hatch , aft of the inside Steering /Nav consoles that offered a great skyview from the pilothouse seating/ dining area.

I thought it too large, too vulnerable.

Now, 11 years later, I have really appreciated having this large deck opening to bring in new large items like an Isotherm drawer fridge/freezer that otherwise, would never have fitted.

Great for winching out heavy AGM batteries or engine parts in a rebuild and it does scoop in an incredible amount of fresh air, when opened.

My thanks to the previous Owner.

Could just be an illusion from being close up with a wide angle lens
