If I had to start a deck from scratch, I would stick marine deck 2000 cork decking on it. I was sold after walking on it in Miami on a big cat that was sitting in the sun all day. It was cool and quite grippy underfoot. And there is no fasteners so no compromise in the deck integrity. They apparently use it on cruise ship decks so it's durable and tough stuff too.

Or in the med. I appreciate that the cabin top is white and so to parts of the anchor locker cover. Somewhere cooler to stand

Maybe SWL can have a predominantly grey deck with a few strategically placed white details.

Like walking in hot coals, walking on a hot deck barefoot can be done if you have somewhere cool to stop.

Having some white highlight could make the deck look better if designed properly

I know, it was tongue in cheek. Real teak decks are so expensive these days I can't believe anyone would put them on a boat but you'd never be able to worry about anything cause you'd be to busy looking after it heh.

This discussion has been very useful. Thanks for your input everyone. We were tossing up before between a pale grey and white, but we didn't realise grey would be significantly hotter to walk on.

We live with a painted white aluminium deck at the moment and cleaning is not an issue. A quick wipe over with an old towel on dewy mornings by the chief deckhand and bottle washer (also known as SWL ) leave it spotless.
Also, Med summers are hot, hot, hot and walking barefoot on the deck has not been an issue.

White wins hands down given grey is hotter .

I'm looking at the eye on the waterline at the bow. I would ask them to triple it with plates welded to each side and a good way in, past the turn of the bilge and welded against the stringer there. This to distribute the forces towards the keel line for towing or hurricane mooring.
