One of the duo, Seaworthy described in the past how they used a kettle to balance their water for this on the previous vessel. I think maybe because I am of the post war generation and can remember in some places having to heat water in a big kettle that it didnt appeal to me.

I am from the school of 'turn a mixing valve' whilst in the shower, but find this setup would be equally of value and will not take time. This does appeal.

Well though out Noelex...

Re: Bestevaer 49ST

You see, so much depends on what one is used to. I expect some people might have the "camping" reaction to heating water in the kettle for shower use, but for our first 18 years, all Jim and I had was a sun shower with the cockpit rigged for privacy, and sometimes its temp did need "correcting." It really is a lot in whatever it is to which one is accustomed. It is a skill anyone can learn, to work with what they have; it is not necessarily "backwards."

It looks like it will be easy to keep clean, and very usable. Nicely done, noelex and SWL.

Re: Bestevaer 49ST

A nice wooden door. I hope it is really well varnished to protect from all that humidity.

Why two showers heads - redundancy?

A seated shower is nice when under way, but a stand up one is better when stopped. It's hard to have both, especially with a washing sink underneath.

I can see this project is not one for the indecisive.

I took this photo of the shower today to try and provide more detail for you. It shows the shower seat in the upright position although the retaining catch to secure the seat up has not yet been fitted yet, so the seat does not properly stay folded back against the wall. The rail is here in the upper position where it would be used for hanging clothes to dry. There is also a fixed handhold on the rear wall.

This photo shows the other end of the shower. With the seat lid raised you can see the sinks (or laundry tubs) that are underneath. The shower is quite substantial (especially for a boat shower) and there is plenty of standing room, although it perhaps does not look this way in the photos. For us as a couple living full time on the yacht with only occasional guests, a large dedicated shower is preferable to the multiple smaller showers or combination shower/toilets that would normally be fitted to a boat this size, but this layout would obviously not suit everyone.

Re: Bestevaer 49ST

One of my 'just in case' redundancies is a small Honda 2k generator. It tucks away nicely in a small space. 2K is a nice useful load. I can use it for my coffeemaker, my water heater, my backup hob top, to refresh the batteries, numerous things.... Maybe at some stage the main power, supply will take a tumble. The Honda is my personal security. If solar goes out, there is the Honda for basic needs. If you have two, they can be paired...

Saves having that hulking great expensive generator that will never see action if the Solar works as expected. It can also be take ashore in a remote place to power whatever is required....

I bring mine out once a month to power a couple of things. Keeps it in working order and is a comfort.

I think I paid less than £700 for mine slightly used. 230 volts. UK plug. Very quiet in use and has a good startup overload capacity.

Totally agree , I would much rather have one large shower than 2 or 3 tiny ones where you have to step out if you drop the soap.
It is also nice to have a shower sized for two, so you can scrub each others back. [emoji4]

Great multifunctional design guys and I am 100% in favor of seats in a boat shower and even recommend them on Superyacht showers .
What is the present status; launched? dock trialed.. ? How far from delivery and acceptance?

First saw that shower tub idea on a Pearson 424, great idea IMHO.
Any chance of diverting shower water from the sump to the tubs for washing if fresh water is a problem?

Re: Bestevaer 49ST

The interior is just about finished and is looking gorgeous.

The table has been fitted and is solid Bubinga, as is the rest of the interior woodwork.

The table is bolted down (but can be removed for access to the hull structure underneath). There is an additional seat under the table that can be pulled out. The seat (with its cushion removed) also serves as a fiddle table for the pilothouse. The grain in the table is superb, but does not really show up well in a still photo.

The seat is held in position with a couple of stainless steel pins, but also has a couple of bolts for rough offshore passages.

One of our requirements was that nothing in the boat could come loose in the event of a severe knockdown or even rollover. This sounds like a simple requirement, but there are lot of components to secure: floorboards, locker lids, table, seat, oven, Reflex, washing machine etc etc. To survive hanging inverted, all this gear needs to be bolted down rather than just held with a couple of machine screws. Let's hope we never test this .

A maritime photographer is coming today so KM suggested we added a few of our own possessions to add a personal touch.

I do love the octopus on the plate! Very personal indeed. I don't have to guess why it was chosen.
