If you really are in the market to buy you can go to the BVI (British Virgin Islands) in the summer. It might be hot and most of the boats are either on the hard or hurricanized but you can get some smoking deals in a wonderful location. If you go to New and Used Yachts for Sale - YachtWorld.com and search for boats for sale in the BVI you will probably get more hits than any other single location

I'm a little concerned that you have included Hunter and Catalina in your list of "Offshore" monohulls. As Paul intimated earlier, there are better choices. Many cruisers would prefer to spend the same money and buy an older but wiser vessel!

Hunter have some models in jeanneau and beneteau style. And i like the new 45cc with the lovely masterbedroom. And i "think" a Hunter is simular as jeanneau and beneteau offshore. The Catalina is a tip from..a moderator on this forum (forgot the name, Pblais?). But i did not asked for a offshorecruiser, it was more like boats simular to the jeannau and beneteau.
And for one atlantic cross i think a 40-45f boat in this style is ok. Don´t worry, everthing depends on what kind of "long cruise" i will do.
My problem is that i like space inside, like a Najad 460 but i don´t want to pay for it.

They probably don't look as nice after you get them home either If you are willing to invest in some normal refitting older better boats can still be a deal now. All the parts without all the extra VAT can be had here and that saves you even more. You just need a few months to gather it all up and do the installations.

Thats true, it is no idea to buy a brand new boat and think it looks like new after 4-8 mounths(or longer) cruising. It´s better to buy a "clean" used boat without all extra to a lower price and then you also have newer parts on her.

One thing about older vs newer boats in size from 38-45f it´s and older boat need to be 5 f longer to have the same interiorsize.

Keep in mind that beautiful Swedish boats are available in the USA as well, and you may be able to realize a tax advantage to re-import such a boat to Sweden if you can purchase it for the right price.

My personal suggestion would be to examine the costs of either long-term chartering (thus no insurance cost, and no worries/costs about bringing the boat home) for your cruise, or purchasing a boat for your cruise and then selling it when you are done. This may cost less, and require less time, than bringing the boat home (or having it delivered.)
