Re: Best Pilothouse Sailboat?

Hello from Campbell River BC, thought I'd add to the mix with our Roberts 434 pilothouse, which we love for north west sailing, cheers.

Re: Best Pilothouse Sailboat?

Amazing how this went 123 posts without any mention of the absolute best pilot house/sailboat/motorsailer/sportfisher, the Cal Cruising 46.
I have had hull # 3 for 31 years, lived aboard and cruised 18 of those years.

There were only 18 Cal 46's built and most are still sailing. I was lucky enough to get Cal Boats founder, Jack Jensen's boat, "Satori" shortly after he circumnavigated and died at an early age, 53.

Cal 46's were built for a purpose rather than the market. She is a fast sailer that carries enough diesel fuel to motor 2,000 miles, is very comfortable and well thought out. After all I have 31 years experience.
I will post more photos tomorrow.

And 6 of them are for sale on Yacht world.

Re: Best Pilothouse Sailboat?

I rode out a pretty good storm on crossing the Gulf from Pensacola to the Key's direct on a Pan Oceanic 46, very nice boat, great ride. I really like the look of the CSY 44 Pilothouse and if I was gonna go monohull this would be my choice

It's not a Nauticat, but it has a sturdy look.

My Marimba 44 , same design like a Amel Super Maramu but built in Alumnium. Now i changed the plastic / wooden hard dofger to a aluminium one with 2 layers safety glass. nice secure sailing , altough you do not feel the gusts arriving anymore.....

Re: Best Pilothouse Sailboat?

The Vilms are very pretty and appear to be well built.

Very expensive.

Please explain why you believe they are worth the premium price,.

Re: Best Pilothouse Sailboat?

thanks westsail. Not easy to get a deckshouse and nice lines in a 44 feet boat. my cockpit is really deep with a spilt level to manage it. i am happy with it.

to Vilm: i know the yard and have visited several boats, actually i copied a little bit the design of the deckshouse when building my new one. nice boats, handmade in germany, not premanufactured like bavaria or hanse. not very roomy but nice lines, but compared witrh a"typical white" boat expensive
