Best Marina in San Carlos, Mexico?

Hello,
We are hoping someone has some first hand experience with the two marinas in San Carlos, Mexico: Marina San Carlos and Marina Real.

We are interested in living aboard (with our dog) and also storing our 28' sailboat there over hurricane season. From Google Earth, it appears that Marina San Carlos is better protected. Any experiences or thoughts on pros/cons of each marina (amenities, security, hurricane protection, etc) would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I would suggest joining this Yahoo group southbound_group : The Southbound Group
and asking the question there. Many of the members have been there.

Across the street from Marina San Carlos is the marine supply store Star Marine. There's a market and several restaurant/watering holes with in walking distance. Marina San Carlos owns Marina Seca, the dry storage yard, down the street. Marina Seca has a work yard for doing your own work. Last year I paid $147 per month for dry storage for a UP36. You can chat with the Marina San Carlos staff via there website.

Marina San Carlos

I don't have any experience with Marina Real.

Re: Best Marina in San Carlos, Mexico?

It was way back in the mid '90's, so take this with a grain of salt.
We've kept our boat in Marina Seca two different times.
Both were a very positive experience.
We kept it one summer season in Marina Real.
At that time, all the slips were very short and the cleats were corroding off the docks.
The place was nearly deserted, but the people running it were very nice.
They let us install our own through bolted cleats, the price was right and the pool was spectacular.
We swam there every afternoon during our several week updating of the boat just before the next cruising season.
It was necessary to have a car to get to town because of its distance to stores.
That may have changed since.
