Re: Best high end used sailboat makes up to 60'

Suggest you start going to boat shows and actually looking at new boats so you can see how each manufacturer builds. Also do lots of research and reading. If a boat strikes your fancy....go to the owners forums and read, read, read.

A Shannon will take you safely and comfortably to any ocean.

If you are US based, Shannon is one of the few semi-custom builders still in business, you can have their craftsmen make your used Shannon as good as new.

Somewhat similar to the Shannon is Gozzard. There are a few 44' s for sail including a ketch.

Re: Best high end used sailboat makes up to 60'

Thanks everyone for the great advice. I will get sailing experience and attend boat shows as well as do further research and readings. At the serious sailing schools here in San Francisco, the larger sailboats are Beneteau, Jenneau, and Tartan at places like OCSC and Club Nautique.

Re: Best high end used sailboat makes up to 60'

The short answer is that due to your price range ($500K or under) you really have a very large selection. Most of the boats mentioned above would provide quality build/fast sailing. If not already mentioned, consider Tartan and Hanse. In any event, before venturing off shore you will want to thoroughly inspect and upgrade whatever boat you buy to meet your own requirements as well as to withstand off shore conditions.

Oh my! After watching videos on the Amel, Najad, Oyster, and Hallberg-Rassy, the Catalina's and Benneateaus look way less upscale.

Amel Super Maramu is my choice...clearly I own one, but it is really well built, strongly constructed, beautifully fitted out, well equipped, very comfortable and easy to sail (you don't get wet!) Amel is in a different league to Catalina, Bavaria, Dufour, Beneteau, Jeanneau.

But, what can one be had for? I'm asking as my price range will be in the ballpark of the OP's and thought your boat was out of my range.

Never mind I looked, appears I was wrong

Also Outbound Yachts makes a very solid performance cruiser for a fair price in that range. Along with the others mentioned there is quite a spectrum in performance/ comfort, it depends on what fits your particular vision of crusing.

Re: Best high end used sailboat makes up to 60'

Hylas is another in the high end market, most likely the best value in the high end market but in your range you'd be looking for a used model.
Tartan in one of the higher end mid price production boat builders and offer a certain amount of customization in their builds, still in the size your looking you'd be looking for used models.
Are you looking new or used?
There are benefits and detriments either way.
WHy 60'?
Over about 45 it gets harder to handle with a shorthanded couple unless you have power winches etc, etc, in which case you need the technical ability to service/ maintain those systems and they cost more.

Passport, Valiant, Tashiba, Hylas, Island Packet, Hallberg Rassy etc, should all be under your price. Some well under ....due to getting a bit long in the tooth. I dont know that I would call them high end, but probably built as well as some gold platers... No point in going light and bendy like Bene, Jeanneau, Tartan which really are low end boats.... with that budget.
