Best Arrangement for Mast Base Hardware ?

Hello,

I'm looking to replace some things at the base of my mast while I have it down: the bolt that is holding on the boom vang bail and the block that directs main and jib halyards aft from the mast. I'm thinking that the way the previous owner had it set up before is perhaps not the most graceful arrangement (see pic).

I already picked up a Ronstan Series 40 double block and I'll replace the old bolt with a new stainless one, but I'm not sure how I should attach that block to the bolt. The old one is just over the threading of the bolt at an angle, held on with a nut. Maybe I could get a bolt with an eye? But I'm not sure that's the best load direction for bolt. I'm imagining some sort of flat washer-like tab that goes under the bolt, against the mast, with an eye on it for the block to attach to. I'm not sure if this exists...
